SMM Picnic 2017 – Cricket Tournament

Welcome to the SMM 2017 Cricket Tournament, an exciting contest of 6 overs 6 players a side Cricket for SMM community members in the Seattle Metro Area. The tournament will be held on 15th July 2017 at Redmond Ridge Park. SMM invites all of its members to participate in this tournament that is open to all community members and the teams will be filled in on first come-first-served basis.

Community members can participate in the tournament in one of the two options listed below:
Individual participation
Individual participants will provide an ordered list of teams (in the order of decreasing preference). Teams will be assigned based on the first available slot in the highest preference as possible. The decision of the SMM committee will be final in this case.
Team Participation
A group of 6 to 8 individuals can apply to a particular team with their choice of team name.

Participation Guidelines
• Participation is open to all community members in the Greater Seattle Area, irrespective of gender or nationality. There is no entry fee for current 2017 SMM members however non-members will be charged $5 per person entry fee.
• One participant can represent ONE team only. Registering for multiple teams is strictly forbidden and can lead to disqualification of the individual and/or the team.
• It is mandatory requirement that the all the team participants be at least 15 years old to minimize the risk of injuries during the course of a match.
• SMM reserves the right to change team allocations in the following scenarios.
• There are not enough players in more than one team, hence the respective teams will be merged (under SMM directive) to form one team that can be represented in the tournament
• There are requests for a team beyond the number of teams planned. Such requests will be included for discussion if and only if all the slots for the teams have already been allocated to respective applicants, and if additional matches do not obstruct the overall event.
The draw of matches will be changed accordingly to accommodate the new teams as well.
• Kindly note that to preserve the integrity of the application process, SMM will not accept verbal requests or solicitation to committee members. All applicants are required to send in their names via the application form.

Game Rules
• The matches will be played with a tennis grade ball. SMM will provide a new ball per match.
• Due to limitations in the available ground area for use at the venue, the boundary of play will be shorter than the standard boundary recommended by the ICC, and will be determined upon inspection of the venue by the officiating personnel from SMM Committee.
• All rules from the ICC manual pertaining to the dismissal of a batsman will apply unless explicitly stated otherwise.
• SMM will provide officiating personnel (on-field umpires, scorers) for the event. The decision of the on-field umpire is final and not open to review or appeal. We request the participants to respect the umpire’s decision at all times.
• A team may have more than 6 members as bench strength not exceeding 8 members. During the actual game, only 6 members from this list will participate in the game. If the members from the bench play for a team during a match then they will not be able to play for any other team.
• The fielding side will be allowed three substitutions per match, if required.
• The fielding side will be allowed a maximum of 4 bowlers, with each bowler bowling a maximum of 2 overs. Substitute fielders are NOT eligible as bowlers.
• All matches will be played on the same pitch.
• There will be a break of up to 5 minutes between innings, and up to 5-10 minutes between consecutive matches. To facilitate a timely progression of the tournament, teams are expected to be ready to play at their expected time.
• SMM will provide the necessary cricket gear like bat, ball, stumps etc.
• First-aid kit will be available for treating minor injuries. SMM does not take any responsibility for the injuries to the players.
