SMM Cricket 2010

Tournament Structure, Rules and Regulations

Welcome to the inaugural edition of SMM 2010 Cricket Tournament, an exciting contest of 10 overs cricket for members in the Seattle Metro Area. The tournament will be held on 1st August 2010 at Tibbets Valley Park (see directions below). SMM invites its members to participate in this tournament. Participation is open to all members, and the teams will be flled in on firstcome-first-served basis. Four teams (see next section) will compete for the first place (and bragging rights for the year) in this tournament.

Teams:

The teams for this tournament are as follows (in alphabetical order):
1. Bellevue Kings
2. Everett Aviators
3. Redmond Riders
4. Seattle Pikers

Backup teams (if needed)
5. Issaquah Eagles
6. Kirkland Coyotes
7. Olympic Orcas
8. Rainier Rangers

SMM will provide a dedicated webpage/facebook group for publicity to each team. This will include player biographies, photos or other promotional material furnished by the teams. Members can participate in the tournament in one of the two options listed below:

Individual participation

Individual participants will provide an ordered list of teams (in the order of decreasing preference). Teams will be assigned based on the first available slot in the highest preference as possible. The decision of the SMM program committee will be fnal in this case.

Team Participation

A group of 11 (or more) individuals can apply to “own” a particular team. Ownership grants the participants rights to garner fan-support and publicity using the name of the team. Please note that the ownership is available for free, and is valid for a period of one year. During this period, the team members can participate as the named team in any sporting event arranged by SMM.

Participation Guidelines
  • Participation is open to all community members in the Greater Seattle Area, irrespective of gender or nationality. SMM does require all participants to be current members and would be happy to accommodate membership requests for non-members who are interested in participating in this event.
  • One participant can represent ONE team only. Registering for multiple teams is strictly forbidden and can lead to disqualifcation of the individual and/or the team.
  • It is recommended, but not required, that the participants be at least 14 years old to minimize the risk of injuries during the course of a match.
  • SMM reserves the right to change team allocations in the following scenarios
    1. There are not enough players in more than one team, hence the respective teams will be merged (under SMM directive) to form one team that can be represented in the tournament.
    2. There are requests for a team franchise beyond the 4 teams planned. SMM may include other teams based on the collective interest and time constraints. Such requests will be included for discussion if and only if all the slots for the 4 teams have already been allocated to respective applicants, and if additional matches do not obstruct the overall event.
    3. For point (2) above, the teams will be assigned to a team from the list of “backup teams” as outlined above.
    4. The draw of matches will be changed accordingly to accommodate the new teams as well.

Participation will open on 12th July 2010, and interested parties/individuals can contact SMM at cricket@seattlemm.org with intent to participate in this tournament. Kindly note that to preserve the integrity of the application process, SMM will not accept verbal requests or solicitation to committee members. All applicants are required to send their names via email to the above address.

Game Rules
  • The matches will be played with a tennis grade ball. SMM will provide a new ball per match.
  • Due to limitations in the available ground area for use at the venue, the boundary of play will be shorter than the standard boundary recommended by the ICC, and will be determined upon inspection of the venue by the offciating personnel from SMM Committee.
  • All rules from the ICC manual pertaining to the dismissal of a batsman will apply unless explicitly stated otherwise.
  • SMM will provide offciating personnel (on-feld umpires, scorers) for the event. The decision of the on-feld umpire is fnal and not open to review or appeal. We request the participants to respect the umpire's decision at all times.
  • A team may have more than 11 members as bench strength. During the actual game, only 11 members from this list will participate in the game.
  • The felding side will be allowed three substitutions per match, if required.
  • The felding side will be allowed a maximum of 4 bowlers, with each bowler bowling a maximum of 3 overs. Substitute felders are NOT eligible as bowlers.
  • All matches will be played on the same pitch.
  • There will be a break of upto 5 minutes between innings, and upto 5 minutes between consecutive matches. To facilitate a timely progression of the tournament, teams are expected to be ready to play at their expected time (see draw below).
  • SMM will provide a first-aid kit for treating minor injuries. SMM does not take any responsibility for the injuries to the players.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place teams, and all participants will receive a certifcate of participation. In addition, two individual prizes will also be on offer : highest wicket-taker bowler, and highest number of runs by a batsman.
